GST Calculator

The GST Act was passed by the parliament on March 29, 2017 and started being used on July 1 of the same year. This tax, called the Goods and Services Tax (GST), is a type of indirect tax imposed by the Indian government on everything people buy or use within the country. It replaced several older taxes like sales tax and excise duty, simplifying the tax system.

Every business in India must register for GST and get a unique GST Identification Number (GSTIN). Consumers have to pay this tax on goods they buy and services they use. To figure out how much GST to pay accurately, you can use a tool called a GST calculator.

What is a GST Calculator?

The GST calculator is a useful tool available online that helps you figure out how much GST you need to pay for a month or a quarter. It's easy to use and helpful for various people like buyers, manufacturers, and wholesalers.

Different Types of GST

GST, or Goods and Services Tax, has four main categories: CGST, SGST, UTGST, and IGST.

IGST is applied when goods or services are supplied between different states. For example, if a supplier is in one state and the buyer is in another state, IGST is charged.

For transactions within the same state, both CGST and SGST are charged. These are essentially two halves of the total GST rate. So, if the total GST rate is 18%, then 9% CGST and 9% SGST would be applied. This is for transactions where the supplier and the buyer are in the same state.

In simple terms, if you're buying something from another state, IGST applies. If you're buying within your own state, both CGST and SGST apply, each at half the total GST rate. This system helps streamline taxation for transactions happening within and between states in India.

Formulas to Calculate GST

If GST is excluded from the price:

GST Amount = (Value of supply x GST%)/100

Price to be charged = Value of supply + GST Amount

If GST is included in the price:

GST Amount = Value of supply – [Value of supply x {100/(100+GST%)}]

Advantages of GST Calculator

Here are a few benefits of using a gratuity calculator:

  • The GST calculator simplifies calculations for gross or net product prices based on GST rates.
  • It accurately breaks down the GST rates into CGST and SGST or calculates IGST.
  • Saves time and reduces human error in computing the total cost of goods and services.
